These giants , the wooden elevator, long a symbol of the Canadian Prairies.  They  always had their Village or Town name on them, so you could always find your way. They started appearing on the prairies in about 1870 and over the next 60 years nearly 6000 were built along the railway lines every 10-12 miles . They were a feat of engineering in their day.
